Top Gun Promotions Women’s Championship and First Division Leagues concluded Thursday, with the spoils being shared by Donna Gleed and Kelly Haverson.
Gleed secured the Championship title with a 5-2 win over Sally Smith, whilst the Division One title went the way of Haverson with a 4-0 whitewash over Ailish Finnan.
The six-week league, which saw over 100 women compete, saw it draw to a close following two weeks of finals. The Champions were:
Premier Division - Anastasia Dobromyslova
Contenders Division - Roz Bulmer
Challenger Division - Hilary Kirkbride
Championship Division - Donna Gleed
Division One - Kelly Haverson
The league was set up by Top Gun Promotions Director Claire Stamper. Stamper, who took up the sport when she was 17, made her county debut at the age of 20 and travelled on the tour before the birth of her daughter Katie.
Stamper is currently the UKDA Commercial Director and North East Director, tasked with negotiating with commercial partners and sponsors to make the UKDA commercially viable for it members.
Under Top Gun Promotions, Stamper (in a non-lockdown situation) regularly hosts competitions in the North-East Region, and is looking to build up a team of players to represent and help progress within the sport. Both Lauren Stokoe and Callum Beddow are currently sponsored by Top Gun Promotions and Stamper is hoping to expand on that.
Moving forward, Stamper is keen to seem the women’s game brought to the forefront. Stamper told WWD, “There is a lot of interest from the ladies in a tour as proven with 102 entries in the Top Gun Leagues” and she would welcome the opportunity to show what women can achieve in a professional environment.
Thursday March 25th will see the start of the next Women’s League.
